Angel Phanuel

* * *

S amuel saw the light as it fell from the heavens. Watched it as it traveled directly towards them. The imagery was so brilliant against the darkness that for a moment he felt scared. Whatever, or whomever was coming did not seem concerned with the battle at hand. As it crashed to the ground the world seemed to freeze in place. With a final flash, glorious light illuminated from its point of impact. Samuel could see this was a being of pure light and one of the most beautiful things he had ever seen. The darkness could not stand against and fled to the furthest point it could.

Everyone around him was frozen. It seemed time had stood still. The giant was caught in a roar to the sky. The woman guardian was stuck just before she was about to attack the giant. Everything became clearer in the light. He could see the priests standing off to the side frozen as it dawned on them what was happening. The light was so brilliant that it pierced the veil of shadow and even caught up the Furies that had been seeking to destroy him earlier.

In the center of everything stood what he could only believe was an Angel and it beckoned to him. He dared not resist such a thing and, in a moment, felt fear at the possibility of meeting this being. Everything he had read about Angels was dull in comparison. As he walked towards the light, he could start to make out some of its features. It resembled a man in body, but its wings were made from the purest light and the face was blurred with almost no telling features that a normal face would have. The size of the angel was not quite as large as the giant, but even though the giant was bigger, its power paled in comparison.

As he got closer the angel spoke to him. At first, he tried to hear until he realized it was not making sounds for his ear but sounds for his mind.

“Come Samuel, do not be afraid, I know you have many questions?”

As soon as he started to speak, he realized it was probably not necessary and instead used his mind to relay his thoughts, “So, it is true that Gabriel is my father, are you him?”

It sounded odd as he said it, and the question did not come out the way he wanted. The Angel immediately started to shrink in size until he was near the same height as Samuel. The light of the angel started to dim, and the angel literally transformed before his eyes until he was staring at a man. He was the most perfect man Samuel had ever seen in his life. This is what every man would want to be if it were possible. The Angel had taken on a face that seemed somewhat familiar to him, but not quite. With a warm smile he responded to the question with, “My name is Phanuel, and your father sent me to you Samuel.
